Message from the Director
Welcome to the Center for Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (CMCB). The 21st century is experiencing an unprecedented need for life sciences-related technologies across the globe, and there is good reason for that. Be it health, energy, or sustainability, we are increasingly looking to harness nature-inspired methods to solve our problems. This means a better understanding of biological processes at molecular and cellular levels is necessary to uncover complex biological mechanisms and to inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. The mission of the CMCB here at the University of Southern Mississippi is precisely to expand the boundaries through cutting-edge research and to provide rigorous training for students who are keen in advancing their careers in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences. Being unique to the gulf coast region, CMCB is focused on expanding the research frontiers in Biosciences by advanced research, infrastructure development, and enriching graduate student education and training by embracing creativity and rigor. With focus on areas in biochemistry, biophysics, biotechnology, cell biology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, and virology, and working on a plethora of model systems, our faculty members have embraced CMCB鈥檚 mission by taking on the challenge of addressing some of the most complex scientific puzzles in life sciences.
We strongly encourage prospective students to visit us here virtually and apply to
our graduate program via the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MANS), and School of Biological, Environmental and Earth Sciences (BEES). We also encourage researchers from other institutes to navigate our site
and engage with our faculty for productive collaborations.
