Earn Your Degree in International Business

Students pursuing the international business degree at Southern Miss build functional business and cross-cultural skills with real-world applications. International business majors engage professional leaders and government officials during their senior class project. Students perform real-world, real-time work as they find solutions to real issues that these executives face daily.

Students are encouraged to consider studying abroad! In fact, many business students are awarded study abroad scholarships to assist with the expense of attending study abroad programs. Southern Miss Business faculty lead three programs: British Studies, Asian Studies, and Italian Studies.

The College of Business and Economic Development is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

What Will I Learn?

Initial coursework in the degree program consists of seminars in international business, international management, international marketing, and 12 hours of any single foreign language. Students also complete courses in international business finance and an international business project-based class.

Each International Business student will complete a Capstone course during their senior year. During the class, students work on projects with public and private sector executives finding real solutions to real international business problems, including issues pertaining to exporting, supply chain, and regulatory matters. Our students have worked with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Port of Pascagoula, the Port of New Orleans, the Gulfport International Airport, Sanderson Farms, Taylor Industries, Helanbak, Big River Coalition, the French American Chamber of Commerce, the World Trade Center of New Orleans and more.

Students are expected to complete at least one international seminar abroad. Study abroad programs led by Southern Miss business faculty include the British Studies Program, Asian Studies, and Italian Studies. Ask about scholarship opportunities for international business majors to study abroad.

Expert Faculty Who Are There to Help

Not only are the students immersed in the international business world, but our faculty stay heavily involved in an effort to provide the very best educational foundation for our students. Our very own Dr. John Lambert, who earned his doctorate at Grenoble Ecole de Management in Grenoble, France; is a member of the Mississippi District Export Council; and, the Board of Directors of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the French American Chamber of Commerce.
