What is Applied Technology?
The development of business, management, leadership, and human resource development skills in combination with technology.
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Technology program at the University of Southern Mississippi has been designed with reference to the Talent Development Capability ModelTM from the Association for Talent Development (ATD).
Who should enroll in Applied Technology?
- Community College students completing a technical/occupational degree or certificate program.
- Working professionals who wish to complete their Bachelor鈥檚 degree and possess
- a technical/occupational certificate or a 2-year degree, or
- some technical college credits, professional development credits, or work experience.
- Active or retired service members with a technical/occupational certificate, a 2-year degree, or military credit.
If you have completed or are completing a two-year technical degree or a technical certificate and are interested in developing your leadership and management skills for your future career, this program is for you.
You can transfer up to 75 credit hours (45 technical hours plus additional general education or elective hours). Our advisors will help you determine the exact number of hours that are eligible to transfer.
Community College Transfer Academic Scholarship
Students transferring from any accredited community college as their last institution attended are eligible for transfer scholarships. If your last institution attended was a community college, regardless of previous attendance at other institutions, you will be evaluated as a community college transfer student.
- 2 Years (4 consecutive fall/spring semesters) $4,000 annually/$2,000 per semester = up to $8,000 total
- Students must transfer within one year of enrollment at their previous institution.
- Automatic consideration upon admission.
- Transfer cumulative gpa of 3.0 or higher
- Transfer cumulative hours 48 - 89

- Scholarship automatically renews if the student maintains a 2.5 欧美AV cumulative GPA and 15 欧美AV credit hours each fall and spring semester. Failure to meet these stipulations results in immediate cancellation of the scholarship.
- Readmitted students to 欧美AV do not qualify for transfer scholarships.
- Check your 欧美AV email address and the GO System to accept any available offers. Scholarships are awarded a monthly basis.
Program Pathway
If you have an A.S. or A.A.S., teach in a technical field at a community college, and wish to earn your Bachelor's degree, our APT program may be the right fit for you. You can keep teaching while you take our online classes and finish your B.A.S. We have had several of your colleagues from across the state and neighboring states in our program, and they have been excellent students because of their experience.

Our Bachelor of Applied Science program in Applied Technology prepares you to become a skilled manager and leader in your field and moves your career to the next level.
Anyone with fewer than the 30 hours of technical course credit required for program admission may substitute up to nine (9) missing credit hours with any of the following:
- NOCTI exam credit (see ).
- Before you take a NOCTI exam, please contact the program coordinator, Dr. Carsten Schmidtke, to tell him which exam(s) you are planning to take. He can then tell you if your chosen exam is on the list of exams accepted by the Applied Technology program.
- Each NOCTI exam is worth three (3) technical credits hours as long as your total exam score is above the state mean score. Scores below the state mean will not receive credit.
- NOCTI exams may be substituted only for the technical credit hours required for admission into the APT program. They may not be substituted for required program classes.
- Society of Human Resource Management SHRM-CP certification credit (see )
- If you are SHRM-CP certified, you will be given three (3) credit hours toward the 30 credit hours required for admission to the APT program.
- There is a maximum of three (3) credit hours to be earned from SHRM certifications.
- Association for Talent Development APTD and CPTD certification credit (see )
- If you are APTD certified, you will be given two (2) credits hours toward the 30 credit hours required for admission to the APT program.
- If you are CPTD certified, you will be given three (3) credit hours toward the 30 credit hours required for admission to the APT program.
- There is a maximum of three (3) credit hours to be earned from ATD certifications. Therefore, if you are APTD certified and then decide to also take the CPTD exam, you will be able to earn one (1) additional credit hour.
Program Pathway
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Technology program provides an opportunity for active service members and veterans to prepare for their future careers in leadership and management if they
- are completing a career and technical degree program through the military, or
- are taking technical classes through the military.
You will be able to apply up to 45 hours of military credit toward your B.A.S. degree in Applied Technology at 欧美AV.

欧美AV is an Air University Associate to Baccalaureate (AU-ABC) Cooperative partner! 欧美AV Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Applied Technology is the first officially approved degree in the AU-ABC program. The AU-ABC partnership marks an important milestone in providing a smooth transition for Air Force students pursuing their bachelor鈥檚 degree at Southern Miss.
欧美AV accepts Joint Services Transcripts (JST) for Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy service and CCAF transcripts for Air Force service.
